最上級

解説

このレッスンでは「もっとも」や「一番」に当たる言い方を学びます。

• the highest tower
• She is the smartest student in this class.
• This is our biggest room.

例えば high は「高い」という意味ですが、これを最上級で使いたいときは -est が付き highest と形が変わります。

また、副詞と一緒に使う（副詞を修飾する）ときを除けば、most の前に the, my, your などが置かれます。

スペルが長い単語や副詞で使う場合は most を用います。

• He is the most famous actor.
• She completed it most carefully.

best / worst

good や bad は不規則な変化をします。

• This is the best movie I’ve ever seen.
• His score was the worst.

in / of

最上級ではよく in や of を一緒に使います。

場所や集団について使うときは in、期間や数などでは on が用いられることが多いです。
